ABSTRACT

Introduction: Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) is an aggressive subtype of peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) characterized by systemic disease. It is a rare subtype of non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas. However, it forms a major subset of PTCL. Lymph node is the primary site of disease and virtually all patients present with generalized lymphadenopathy. Case report: A 42-year-old male presented with fever of short duration and a solitary axillary lymph node swelling on the right side. Systemic examination revealed moderate ascites and hepatosplenomegaly. Hematological investigations showed pancytopenia and abnormal liver function. Axillary lymph node showed histological features suggesting AITL and was confirmed by a panel of immunohistochemistry (IHC). Conclusion: AITL presenting as solitary axillary lymph node enlargement is unusual. Such atypical presentation mandates careful clinical and laboratory evaluation. IHC is an effective ancillary tool for confirmation of diagnosis of this distinct clinicopathological entity.

ABSTRACT

We report a case of erythema induratum recently encountered in our centre. A 14-year male presented with history of fever, weight loss and multiple, painful, hyperpigmented patches over both legs and dorsum of foot, since six months. FNAC showed evidence of granulomatous inflammation. Biopsy of the lesion showed skin with inflammatory infiltrate in the deep dermis composed predominantly of epithelioid granulomas, Langhan’s giant cells and mature lymphocytes. A strongly positive Mantoux test and elevated TB IgG and IgM antibody levels suggested tuberculosis . The patient responded well to a course of anti-tuberculous therapy with marked resolution of the lesions.

ABSTRACT

Leprosy is a chronic debilitating disease. A reliable diagnosis hinges around a good histopathological diagnosis and demonstration of the bacilli in the histopathological section. The usual method performed Modified Fite Faraco Method is time consuming, laborious and less sensitive. It has been our endeavor to devise a more rapid and sensitive method for the diagnosis and bacillary load detection in histopathological sections. The Modified Rapid AFB devised by us is sensitive and time saving which is essential for the pathologist and for the treatment by the Dermatologist. We have studied about 53 cases of different types of Hansen's disease and compared with both Modified Fite Faraco method and Modified Rapid AFB method. The results were found to be very encouraging with the Modified Rapid AFB method.
